After a turbulent few years during the COVID-19 pandemic, air travel has reached record levels of popularity, straining fleets and the workforce. Global passenger demand, measured in passenger kilometers, rose 5.3% in 2024 and reached new record high levels.

2. Airplanes are fuller than they’ve ever been, and passengers noticed. (Source)

To meet demand, airlines packed their planes tightly and finished the year just shy of 84% full airplanes on average. This was an effective but temporary fix for supply-chain constraints.

3. The busiest flight day of 2025 was August 1. (Source)

On that Friday alone, global airline seat capacity reached 19,833,642 seats, surpassing 2024’s busiest day by more than 555,000 seats.

The Boeing 737 flew 10 million flights in 2024, more than any other aircraft type.

International business and first-class travel grew by 11.8% in 2024, which was 116.9 premium passengers or 6% of all international travelers.

Boeing estimates that we’ll need around 2.4 million new aviation professionals by 2044, which includes 660,000 pilots, 710,000 maintenance techs, and 1,000,000 cabin crew members.
